MWFpress — Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Turkish Foreign Minister announced on Monday that Turkey won’t allow Syrian Kurdish secessionists to participate in the forthcoming Russian-sponsored Syrian-Syrian talks in Moscow.
Mr. Çavuşoğlu highlighted that Ankara vociferously objected at Russia’s invitation of the PKK-affiliated Democratic Union Party (PYD) to take part in the upcoming Syrian-Syrian peace talks. PYD has carved up a de facto Kurdish statelet in northeastern Syria which made Turkey extremely anxious toward PYD’s international political role.
The Turkish top diplomat noted that during the past year and in the light of Astana Syria Peace Talks, the level of war and hostilities has decreased significantly in Syria, the extent of sieges and blockades diminished markedly and the ground is prepared for a comprehensive Syrian-Syrian talks.
But Çavuşoğlu warned that the presence of those Kurdish political parties which do not respect Syria’s national unity and territorial integrity in international peace conferences is Ankara’s ultimate red-line in any future political talks about the Syrian six-year crisis.
